General information only, current for the 2025-26 financial year. This estimate uses resident tax rates and the optional 2% Medicare levy, and ignores the Medicare levy surcharge, HELP/HECS repayments, low-income offsets, fringe benefits tax on packaged items, and Division 293 tax above $250,000. Packaged benefits vary widely by employer and benefit type, so treat that mode as indicative. This is not personal tax advice. For a plan you can act on, talk to us.

A Few Things This Calculator Assumes

Why does sacrificing into super save tax?

Salary sacrifice comes out of your pay before income tax, so your taxable income drops. Inside the fund the contribution is taxed at a flat 15% (concessional rate) instead of your marginal rate, which can be 30%, 37% or 45% plus the 2% Medicare levy. The gap between your marginal rate and 15% is your saving. The trade-off is that the money is locked in super until you can access it.

What is the $30,000 concessional cap?

For 2025-26 the concessional (before-tax) contributions cap is $30,000 a year. That includes your employer's compulsory Super Guarantee (12%), any salary sacrifice, and personal contributions you claim a deduction for. Go over the cap and the excess is taxed at your marginal rate (with an offset for the 15% already paid), so it pays to add your existing employer super above and keep the total under $30,000. We track this and warn you in the result.

What about Division 293 and high incomes?

If your income plus concessional contributions tops $250,000, an extra 15% Division 293 tax applies to some or all of those contributions, which trims the benefit (though super is often still ahead of your marginal rate). This calculator does not model Division 293, so if you're near that level the real saving may be lower. That's exactly the kind of threshold we plan around.

Is packaging a car or devices the same thing?

Packaged benefits (cars, devices, work expenses) also come from pre-tax income, but they can attract Fringe Benefits Tax and have rules specific to each benefit and employer. We treat the "packaged benefit" mode as a simple pre-tax deduction so you can see the ballpark, but the real numbers depend on your employer's policy and FBT treatment. Get the structure right and the savings can be significant.
