A Few Things This Calculator Assumes

Where do the penalty multipliers come from?

They reflect typical penalties under the Hospitality Industry (General) Award: evening work attracts a small loading, Saturdays and Sundays attract weekend penalties, and public holidays attract the highest rate. Casuals add a 25% loading on top. The exact figures depend on whether the staff member is full-time, part-time or casual, the classification level, and the precise time of the shift, so treat these as a guide and check the current award.

How is casual loading applied?

For casuals we add the 25% loading on the ordinary base, then apply the weekend and public holiday penalties so they compound the way the award intends. Switch the employment type toggle and you will see every multiplier update. Casuals also have minimum engagement periods that this tool does not model.

What is not included in this estimate?

Plenty. It does not add overtime rates, split-shift or late-night allowances, laundry or meal allowances, super guarantee (12% from 1 July 2025) or PAYG withholding. It also assumes every hour you enter falls cleanly into one penalty band. For a full pay run with payslips, super and Single Touch Payroll reporting, that is exactly what we set up for hospitality businesses.
